CHARACTER
Characterization is the way the writer tells the physical traits/ appearance of a character and the personality of a character.
What to Do?
1. Watch the video about characterization.

2. Complete the activity at your level about characterization.
Characterization Terms:
Direct Characterization: the author comes out and tells you about the character
Indirect Characterization: the reader learns about the character through his or her thoughts. actions, or words
Dynamic or Round Characters: characters that change throughout the course of the story
Static or Flat Characters: characters that stay the same throughout the course of the story
Physical Traits: the words that describe the physical appearance of a character
Character Traits: the words that describe the personality of the character
Group One Activity
Read the fable/ folktale the "The Tortoise and the Eagle". Then, complete the character chart for one of the two characters. Consider the appearances and traits of the characters.

Group Two Activity
Read one of the fables/ folktales from Puerto Rico. Then, complete the character trait chart for all of the characters. Find examples of indirect and direct characterization and examples of physical and character traits.
